Eight Steps to a Stress-Free Move.
In order to allow your move to be as stress free as possible, Déménager has divided the moving process into an easy eight-step system. Each step is designed to ensure that the only surprising thing about your move is how easy it will be.

Step I — The First Meeting/Initial Consultation.
During this first meeting, your Déménager Representative will walk through your current residence with you and discuss the menu of services available. You may opt for the entire package to ensure a trouble-free move or choose to take on certain portions yourself. Whatever your preferences, your representative will work with you to coordinate a customized service package appropriate to your specific needs and goals.

Step II — Removing the Clutter.Creating added Savings.
As part of the pre-move preparation it is necessary to eliminate as many items as possible that are broken or have become obsolete. The removal of old toys, damaged furniture and other random items that no longer hold importance can create a real cost savings. Together, we‘ll go through every room, closet, cabinet and so on, to assist in the selection of items that haven‘t been used in at least a year and will probably never be used again. Then, as part of our service, Déménager will handle the arrangements and oversee the removal, sale, donation or disposal of these items for you. However, if you prefer, we will guide you through the process so that you can handle this phase by yourself.

Step III — Screening & Selecting the Right Movers for You.
Depending upon the contents of your residence (art, pianos, antique furniture, automobile collection, etc.), Déménager will screen appropriate moving companies. Part of this screening process will include:

  • inviting the appropriate movers to quote the job and accompanying them during a “walkthrough” to clarify moving and handling needs;
  • calling current references of the movers to validate services rendered and customer satisfaction; and
  • presenting the most appropriate packages/bids to you for final selection.
In some instances, more than one moving company may be involved in your move. This may arise when there are special handling needs related to select items such as: rare antiques, pianos, automobile collections and/or art pieces, etc.

Step IV — Furniture Placement & the Art of Planning Ahead.
If you have a floor plan of your new residence, we will be happy to help you devise a furniture layout in advance of your move. In the event you don‘t have a floor plan of the new residence, we can make a visit to the new residence in order to gather the measurements necessary. This step not only helps keep the process trouble-free, but also often builds positive anticipation for the move itself.

Step V — Getting the “ToDo” Lists Done.
Depending upon your individual household needs, Déménager will create a comprehensive, personalized “ToDo” list. From address changes and service turn-offs to record gathering, scheduling and confirming, these lists address all issues and aspects of a move, including those often overlooked. It is these commonly overlooked or neglected items that cause the most unforeseen and disruptive problems faced during a move. The “ToDo” list is your road map to make sure all necessary items are coordinated, scheduled and confirmed. When it comes to “ToDo” lists, you have the option of:

  • purchasing our proprietary masterlist,
  • purchasing a customized list and tackling the tasks yourself, or
  • choosing our premium level of service which allows Déménager “ToDo” these tasks for you. While certain tasks require your involvement by statute, we will perform all the tasks that the law will allow us “ToDo” on your behalf while assisting you with those few items that require your personal attention.

In addition, the customized “ToDo” list includes a customized package of form letters, addresses and phone numbers to ensure every important entity is advised, and that your mail and important records move with you.

Step VI — Packing Up Your Life.
We will supervise the packing of your current home a room at a time. Our role would include:

  • labeling and numbering every box with our coded labeling system
  • inventorying the contents of each box, thereby eliminating an external written inventory on the boxes.
In addition, we will oversee a variety of tasks, such as the:
  • crating of art, plate glass table tops and similar fragile items;
  • packing of antiques and breakables;
  • wrapping/blanketing of fine furniture; and
  • handling of pianos, sculpture, antiques and similar items requiring a higher level of attention.

Thanks to this care, our coded labeling and special handling, we are able to ensure the proper placement of boxes in the new residence, an accurate count of boxes packed and delivered, and de minimis breakage, damage and loss. Here again, two levels of service are available. We will be glad to provide the expertise and instruction including a package of labels or, if you choose, we will be there hands-on to oversee the packing and labeling process for you.

Step VII — Loading & Leaving.
The actual move out and the loading of the vans will be supervised to ensure that all of the contents are moved from your current home, that nothing is handled carelessly and that everything is placed into the moving van(s). Once the movers have left, Déménager can arrange to have your home swept and/or vacuumed, the floors refinished and the walls repainted if desired. If your home has not as yet been sold, this can only help raise the perceived value of your former residence for prospective buyers or renters. Also, a clean sweep should help you reclaim any security deposits if your former residence was a rental. As an added bonus, if your new residence is within a 30-mile radius, we will empty your refrigerator/freezer and transport your perishables to their new location.

Step VIII — You have Arrived.
Depending on the geographic location of the new residence, a 360 Déménager representative will be present to oversee the unloading and placement of boxes and furniture in your new home. Again, all of these steps and services can be broken down into lesser parts and will be priced accordingly.
